Dear Grayhawk Families,
I hope you are all as excited as I am for the start of, what I'm confident will be, an amazing year here at Grayhawk! I have spent the last few weeks getting to know the unbelievable teachers and staff and feel so honored to be part of such a talented, passionate, and committed group of educators. I have also had the pleasure of meeting some of you, and I have been so moved by the warm welcome I have received. I look forward to meeting the rest of you very soon. I know I speak for the entire team when I say that we can't wait to welcome our amazing students, families, and volunteers back into our building in just a couple of weeks! There is a lot of information below, but if you do have questions after reading through this newsletter, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are always here to help however we can.
Enjoy the precious remaining moments of summer, I truly cannot wait to see you all soon.

Dear members of the Grayhawk Elementary Community,
I am deeply honored, and humbled, to be serving as the principal of Grayhawk Elementary School. After the tumultuous nature of the past year, I’m sure it was not easy to hear that a new principal would be stepping in. My purpose in writing today is to, hopefully, relieve any anxiety you are feeling about the transition.
I was born and raised in Tucson and graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Political Science (I recognize that being a Wildcat is not always popular in this neck of the woods, but I ask that you give me a chance anyway). After college, I moved to the Netherlands to study international law, but after two semesters I realized that a career in law was not my calling. I looked back on my life and realized that a series of incredible teachers had an immense impact on me. I returned to Arizona with a renewed sense of purpose and set my sights on education. While completing my post-baccalaureate teaching certification, I met a beautiful girl who would eventually become my wife, and we moved to Chicago, Illinois to live near much of her family.
I worked for the Chicago Public School District for a decade, all of which was spent in K-8 schools. Over that period, I gained a wealth of experience working in many different roles across multiple grade levels. More importantly, I realized that I had found my true calling: I have a passion for teaching, working with students, and serving a community. I have two children, a six-year-old son and a four-year-old daughter. When they were born we decided that we needed to be back in Arizona so our kids could grow up near their grandparents. That brought us to paradise. My wife and I both began working for PVSchools; she is a school counselor at Mountain Trail Middle School, and I began teaching just up the street at Pinnacle Peak Preparatory School. I was very fortunate to be part of the team that was tasked with expanding PPPS from a K-6 to a K-8. I taught 7th and 8th grade English, Social Studies, and a series of electives. Taking on a leadership role in building and growing that program opened my eyes to a possible future in school administration. I completed my Master’s Degree at Northern Arizona University and was fortunate that an opportunity to serve as the Assistant Principal/TOA at Pinnacle Peak presented itself.
I genuinely enjoy serving a school community and interacting with students. You can expect to see me each morning greeting you and your children with a genuine smile on my face. I strive each day to ensure that our school is a great place for our kids. I look forward to getting to know all of our students and all of you. I look forward to a return to a greater sense of normalcy, and I look forward to working with this amazing group of educators and families to continue the tradition of excellence that characterizes the Grayhawk community. I pledge to you that I will always treat each of your children as if they were my own, and I will do my very best to get to know each of their individual strengths and challenges. It is my goal to make every student feel appreciated, respected, and cared for. I know I will need your support and input to achieve this goal, so please do not hesitate to reach out if you ever have questions, concerns, or something to share.
Enjoy your summer and keep your eyes open for more communication from me as I get settled and we move closer to the start of what I am confident will be an incredible year!
Sincerely,
Eli Hubbell
